　　走进孔子学院的教室，汉字、汉语拼音随处可见，熙来攘往的韩国人带着对中国的好奇热情高涨地学习汉语。孔子学院就是以这样一种形式为韩国人送来了神秘的中国。
　　其实关于中国，韩国人并不陌生，数千年历史渊源及隔海相望、鸡犬之声相闻的地理优势，使中韩两国文化相互交融、影响深刻。尤其是儒教，在韩国更是占据着主导地位。孔子“为国尽忠，敬信节用，爱民如子，人伦之中，忠孝为本”的思想融入了韩国人的血液，成为国家发展和人生道路的精神能源。
　　“君臣父子夫妇长幼朋友之大伦，修身齐家治国平天下之大经”，“忠孝仁爱，信义和平”等儒学精髓，已经深深地根植于韩国文化之中，成为韩国民族精神的基石，而且一直延续至今。
　　今天，韩国的各种习俗和观念仍深受中国影响。
　　 韩国的成均馆就是鲜明一例。成均馆相当于中国的曲阜孔庙，是儒教命脉延续的象征。在韩国的成均馆内，供奉着孔圣十哲和中、韩两国的历代儒家著名圣贤。成均馆还在每月的初一、十五行焚香礼，以表达儒者们对先圣先师的崇敬之心。成均馆属下的地方组织是各地的“乡校”。各地“乡校”除实施一般中小学教育外，至今还专门设有一“明伦堂”，对学生进行经书教育和道义宣传活动。
　　韩国也有春节、清明、端午、中秋等节日。现在，韩国人的道德行为规范依然深受中国儒家思想的影响。比如他们春节仍向长辈磕头、丈夫是一家之主等。
　　值得一提的是，在韩国世宗大王创建韩国文字之前，韩国通行的书写与阅读文字就是汉字。而今韩语中有75%的词汇为汉语词汇，包括韩国的人名系统，像李英爱、裴永俊等等，这些都是很汉语化的名字。韩文的发音也和汉语极其相似。它的汉字写法也与中国简化字改革以前的繁体字无二。
　　深得中国文化裨益的韩国人一直对中国充满向往，丰厚的中韩文化交流底蕴，更为掀起“汉语热”奠定了坚实基础。尤其是在中韩建交后，两国关系更是突飞猛进、全面发展。中国目前是韩国最大的贸易伙伴国。韩国人普遍看好中国，并把中国的前景与韩国的发展联系在一起，学习汉语成为人们对未来的选择。
　　据统计，在只有4900万人口的韩国，如今有30多万人正在以各种方式学习中文；而汉语水平考试（HSK）应试者的急剧增长让人们领略了真正的“汉语热”。2001年，在韩国参加HSK考试的人数为6711人，这一数字到2005年扩大为25706人，翻了近两番，2006年应试者突破了４万人。韩国考生一直列居世界第一,占海外考试人数的67%。在中国的汉语留学生当中，韩国留学生人数也是最多，约占外国留学生中的40%，而这种趋势正由于文化上的联系得到不断加强。
　　早在1998年，包括韩国大学校长、国会议员、卸任的政府高级官员、将军、企业家和文化艺术节元老等约9000名知名人士，就发起成立了韩国“全国汉字教育推进总联合会”。日前，联合会宣布，韩国多位前总理已将他们联名签署的建议书送进总统府，以敦促总统李明博尽早在小学实施汉字教育。建议书提议，汉字应和韩文一起被视为“国字”来实施教育。
　　正是在这样的背景下，首尔孔子学院诞生了。孔子学院为汉语爱好者提供最正规、最主要的汉语学习渠道。首尔孔子学院创始人李充阳是韩国著名的“中国通”。他说，“在韩国创办孔子学院并非偶然。中国的崛起和高速发展，为包括韩国在内的世界各国提供了前所未有的市场和无限商机，精通汉语的人才已成为社会和企业的‘香饽饽’。”
　　孔子学院成立之后，得到了中国政府和韩国韩中文化合作研究院的全力支持。为了满足人们学习汉语的各种要求，首尔孔子学院不仅向求学者提供优秀的汉语教材及学习资料，培训中文教师，开办中文讲座，还分阶段逐步推进符合韩国教育现状的网络汉语教育。在韩国发行量最大的《朝鲜日报》网站，首尔孔子学院分别开设了面对成人和少儿的《嗒嗒搭！生活汉语》等栏目。这些栏目的日访问量高达120万人次。在向全韩国小学发放的《少年朝鲜日报》等报纸上，首尔孔子学院每周两次连载《开心汉语》儿童专栏，推动汉语教育普及。同时，针对韩国涉华企业不同特点，孔子学院还为20多家大型企业提供上门教学。
　　今天，韩国不只有首尔孔子学院，韩国江源大学、湖南大学、东西大学、东亚大学、忠南大学、忠北大学等韩国众多高校也纷纷建立起孔子学院。2007年4月3日，韩国东西大学孔子学院也举行了揭牌仪式。孔子学院作为中国文化的的传播桥梁在韩国培育着成千上万的爱好中国文化的韩国人，同时也真正开启了孔子作为中国文化的形象代言人漂洋过海、周游列国的 “文化之旅”。
