In the beginning of the new term, in order to know each other, we decided to climb the Purple Mountain.

The Purple Mountain , also known as Bell Mountain ,is located in the east of Nanjing, Jiangsu province. Its peaks are often found enveloped in mysterious purple clouds at dawn and dusk, hence comes its name "Purple Mountain".

About 20 people started from school in 12 o’clock, we reached the Baima Park after an hour, then we started to climb it along the cableway. The process of climbing is very interesting and a little bit of danger. I was impressed to climb the slope, the slope is in the hillside, once you set foot on the slope, you could not go back. If you look back, you’ll find you are in the middle of the sky , so you’d better complete it in one breath. Although it was very difficult, all of us completed successfully.

Finally, we reached the top of the mountain, we were so happy and knew more about each other.

Today is "Zhong Qiu Jie", which is also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival. Tomorrow is the National Day. It’s very special this year, so we have an eight-day holiday.

The transport sector cancels the highway toll, so a large number of people drive private cars instead of train or bus. Too many cars in the highway, beyond the capacity of the highway, the vehicle owners were trapped in the way.

The long waiting time has sparked heated debates online. On Sina Weibo, China’s most popular microblog site, one user shared her own experience. She spent nearly eight hours driving on the road, exhausted by her fight to get home. Another user complained about the overcrowded subway, saying she was almost knocked out. This holiday is a really crowded holiday. Relevant departments need to think of ways to solve it.

I am enjoying the National Day holiday, because I didn’t chose to go back home, I stay in school, so I don’t need to bear the traffic jam and the attractions congestion.

Some of my college mats come to Nanjing, it has been two years since we met last time. After graduation, we worked in different places, it’s difficult for us to get together as our country is so big, so this chance is very precious.

We met at five o’clock, six people. Then we drove to a restaurant to have dinner in Yanziji. We were so happy to get together, we talk about our job and the recent life. I know more about different jobs, since I will hunt for a job three years later. So I can do better choice at that time. Both of us become mature, a two-year working career make them smarter. Look forward to the next reunion.

Today I want to talk about the failure. There is a wholeness about the person who has been brave enough to give up his uealistic dreams and not feel like a failure for doing so.

Life is more like a baseball season, where even the best team loses one third of its games and even the worst team has its days of brilliance. Our goal is to win more games than we lose. When we accept that imperfection is part of being human, and when we can continue rolling through life and appreciate it, we will have achieved a wholeness that others can only aspire to.

That, I believe, not “be perfect”, but “be whole”. If we are brave enough to love, strong enough to forgive, then we can achieve a fulfillment.

Today there’s a friendly basketball match between new students and the higher grades students. Before the start of the match, many audiences were attracted to the basketball court. It must be a wonderful match. There were 4 matches, and each was lasted 12minutes of this basketball match.

The first match is for boys, and the second is for girls, but the third is a little different, boys and girls played together. The fourth, is the most exciting which will declared which team was the final victory today.

At the beginning of the first match, it was very exciting, every basketball player at the court moved quickly. This is a tough match, make the hoop, make some mistakes, both sides foul. And finally, the score of this section 11 to 6, we won.

The second matches, all are girls. After a series of shooting and defense, it seems that the match will be tougher than the first match, but nobody was tired to insist on .As time dismissed, the score of this section is 4 to 10 , We are only one point ahead.

It's not a question that the last match was the most exciting. No one felt it was a easy game, and each side was encouraged to fight for the final victory. At last the high grades won the final match with a score of 33 to 27.

Today I want to talk about the food safety. The food seems to have an impact on our health. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of all human illnesses are related to diet.

Different cultures are more prone to contract certain illnesses because of the food that is characteristic in these cultures. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. These carcinogenic additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all the time to know which things in food are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct.

Farmers often give penicillin to beef and poultry, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cows. Sometimes similar drugs are administered to animals not for medicinal purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market.

We should pay more attention to food safety.

Today our college had a party to welcome the new students. The performers had prepared for a long time, so I thought must be very exciting.

The atmosphere was good. The leaders of college also came to watch this party, there are a lot of people in the theater. The performers included the new students and the high grades students. The audiences could also communicate with each by the internet.

There were songs, small sketches and dance. I was impressed by two programs. One is <New Westward Journey>, by four new students, it was very funny, one is <Gannang Style>, it’s very popular all over the world recently. It was performed by us graduate students. They had prepared this program for several weeks.

From this activity, I discovered that many of our classmates are really talented singers and dancers.

These college students have since graduated, and carried their university tradition into society. Singles Day is now a special day for all fashionable youths.

The main way to celebrate Singles Day is to have dinner with your single friends, you can sing and dance, chat and drink, it’s always happy when you stay together with your friends. People also take part in 'blind date' parties in an attempt to say goodbye to their single lives. It’s very exciting, you can meet many single girls, so you have many chances to talk with them, perhaps you will meet the girl in your life.

Also, many couples choose to marry on this day. In addition to meaning 'single' the four 'ones' of the date can also mean 'only one' as in 'the only one for me.'

Shopping on the Internet has a lot of advantages, of which the most important is its convenience. People don’t have to waste a lot of their energy and precious time to go from one shop to another to choose the commodities they want to buy. This is especially desirable to the busy people who cannot go to the shops in person. The goods come in all shapes, sizes and colors on the Internet. All they need to do is to sit in front of their computers and click the mouses. The commodities they order will be delivered to them.

Taobao is my favorite website, many people like it, because it’s very popular and worth to trust. It offer us lots of goods, I usually buy books , shoes and books on it.

Today I want to talk about a TV program which is my favorite. It’s called <Friends>. It’s a story of 6 very different people, growing up together in New York City.

Rachel Green, a spoilt girl who relies on her father credit cards. Monica Gellar, a very paranoid and clean person, who marries Chandler Bing. Phoebe Buffay, a lovable and adorable person. She is a masseuse and musician. Joey Tribbani, he loves acting but doesn't have that much talent, but always believes in himself. I think he is the most funny guy. Chandler Bing, the data technician, but no-one is ever to sure of his job, he brings comic relief to all situations. Ross Gellar, the poor guy who has been divorced 3 times. He is a paleontologist and he is unlucky in love until he gets together with Rachel.

They experienced a lot of things together, and at last they are still friends. I hope that I can own friendship like that.

April 8th Thursday

Today I’d like to say something about another fiction that I just finished which named The Tempest. And I am now writing my thoughts and some information upon it. The Tempest is Shakespeare’s last complete masterpiece which was written in 1611.The main idea of this drama is that Prospero was a Duke from northern Italy. His young brother Antonio was very ambitious that made the use of the help of Alonzo, the King of Naples to usurp the throne which belonged to Prospero. Then with great difficulty Prospero and his three-year-old little princess were cast away on an island. And through magic he managed all the fairies and goblins on the island very well and made them obeyed him. Later, Prospero raised a storm by using magic so that the ship of his young brother and King Alonzo of Naples crashing through reef of the island. However people on board were safe and sound, they landed over there and began to intrigued against each other again. Further more, Prospero vanquished his young brother and Alonzo through magic, making them promise that regain his dukedom. At last, all the people returned to Italy together.

As far as I know, Shakespeare’s writing career is divided into three trimesters. And from 1608 to 1613 which is the last period, Shakespeare got into creations of his late life. This time, he realized that the ideals of humanism could not be true in the real world. Therefore, Shakespeare turned his style from tragedy to legendary drama, and from exposing the dark realistic society to describing the dream world. So this period is also called Shakespeare’s legendary-drama-period. In this period, his works usually draw support from the supernatural to solve the contradictions between idea and reality through mythical fantasy. These works are filled with the spirits of forgiveness and compromise, not like the joyous earlier stage or the gloomy medium term but are full of the dreams about lives and romantic twists.

The Tempest is the best represent of this period’s style and is called the testament in the form of poem. In my view, the story praises the pure love, friendship and amity between people. I was carried away by its plot more than once. The pretty Ariel’s carefulness with her work, Prospero’s tolerance that although he was set up by his relatives however finally be true to his heart and soul treating them with forgiveness, the quite genuine love between Prospero’s daughter Miranda and his enemy’s son Ferdinand, the friendship between the upright Minister and Prospero, all these things are so worshipful and respectable. To my way of thinking, life is made up of necessary elements-careers, family bond, love, friendship. They are complementary to each other. And I appreciate that people should cherish these relationships, trust people live a happy and peaceful life instead of hurting each other or always telling lies which neither side will gain in the end.

Recently I’ve been thinking about the ideas of translating and to be a good translator. Because as I’m an English major student, these things might be close related to my future careers. Therefore, just in time I am writing my thoughts and let these always

keep in my mind. When comes to translating from one language into another, we may have some common problems. Here let me express my ideas. First of all, I think translating from one language into another may have the culture conflict problems. It certainly will influence on the translating issues. The second, when doing translation, sometimes people may add or miss some words. The reason I think is he probably forget to translate or his judgement is colored by his personal prejudice. If the adding and missing words are very important it will lead the version into a different meaning from the original text. The last point is the nuances between two words. Since the translator have deficiencies to understand the original text. And if someone regardless the subtle wording to translate, it will make the version artificial, not very natural or even far away from the original meaning.

To avoid these problems, it is very important to be a good translator. And I think to be an effective translator should possess four qualities except familiar in a language. First, be objective and loyal to the original text. Second, have broad range of knowledge. It is said that a good translator should be electric, knowing a bit of anything. The translation process involves many areas, if it’s all Greek to the translator, when it comes to some terminologies, the translator can not get through it. Third, have a sensitive response. This usually refers to the interpreters. Fourth, thinking logically. Some translators make mistakes during translating, not because of poor verbal skills, but of poor logic. The translator can not realize the context between the lines in the original work so that cause something goes wrong.

And I think this summary is very important and meaningful to me as I not only learned how to write but also how to think about things deeply.

My Dormitory Life

Compared with the forty year old shabby dormitory I am living in now, the one I lived in for three years in high school was heaven: three students shared one brand new suite with air conditioners and a bathroom.

In three years time we changed it thoroughly:the color of the floor turned from bright pink into muddy gray, and the closet a hive of insects proliferating among piles of rotten fruit.And our masterpiece was the bathroom, a never drying swamp which served as the habitat of various kinds of mold, and even rodents, rats would occasionally take the trouble to pay us a visit, and.., all three of us felt like sobbing when we at last had to say good bye to our lovely filthy dormitory. Maybe it is because that the dormitory had changed us as well as we＇d changed it.

The first lesson our dormitory taught us was to look after ourselves. Frankly speaking, we were not good students at all. I still remember the underwear that was soaked in soapy water for one and a half years before it was finally thrown away. Almost each of the boys＇ dormitories had gradually developed its own unique "fragrance" usually a mixture of rotten fruit, unwashed socks, stunk towels and some junk food. We could tell one dormitory from another by sniffing instead of looking. Our tolerance towards untidiness was amazing.

However, in spite of all this, we really did make some progress. Bit by bit, we started to wash dirty clothes before they stunk, cleaned the garbage bin when it could hold no more trash, we even used brushes in a not-sc-successful attempt to refurbish the floor. The point was that we were not obeying any order, we did every bit of the cleaning for ourselves, because we wanted to live in a better place. Though nothing we did could be called an achievement, it was the first time we fully bore the consequences of our behavior, and took the responsibility.

Thus it was not surprising that I often found myself the only one to clean up my university dormitory which looked no better than a garbage bin when my roommates felt normal of it.

When talking about our dormitory life, and probably all the dormitory life, we should never leave out one thing. This was what we called "bed talks". Though it was considered "illegal,"there was nothing to stop us from deliberately starting a heated discussion right after lights were out. It was our favorite and the only way of ending our day, and we were as punctual for it as our parents are for work. What was the most common topic?Girls, of course! What other topics were there for three energetic adolescent males lying comfortably in bed?
